“When training on the flat, suppleness is a key element which should be carefully attended to and developed. A useful exercise which can significantly help to improve suppleness is leg yield. It is the first lateral exercise that is introduced to a horse and involves working on two tracks.
Leg yield is the most basic of lateral movements and encourages looseness and flexibility across the whole of the horse’s body whilst ensuring that the rider uses the correct aids and leg positioning to influence the horse. Read more
British-based para-dressage rider, Bert Sheffield, who rides for Canada, and her 10-year-old, home-produced, part-bred Gelderlander mare, Fairuza (known affectionately as ‘Wonky’ at home), pulled out all the stops at the recent CPEDI3* invitational competition at Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar, to win the Grade III Freestyle on the final day with a score of 70.167%.
It was an evening of rare treats for the enthusiastic home crowd at the College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire on Sunday 17th March 2019. An all-star cast descended upon the venue to do battle in the hotly-contested Equine Construction Grand Prix Freestyle, and though the final scores were tight at the top, British stalwart Carl Hester managed to edge the win from teammate Charlotte Dujardin. Buying a horse is a serious decision, and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. The process to find the perfect horse should take time and care on the buyer’s part. Not only can horses be expensive, they also require quite a lot of money to keep. The Equi-Fun Club ran another of their ever popular Matchy Matchy Dressage Show’s on July 1st at Plumpton College. The idea of the show is to allow competitors to wear their colourful Matchy Matchy sets in competition and to encourage the fun side of dressage. Read more

Suzanne Stratford’s family moved to Broadlands in Medstead, Hampshire in 1946. In 1955 they started giving riding lessons and the Broadlands RDA Group has grown ever since. ITN newsreader Alastair Stewart OBE is an enormous supporter of British equestrianism, a sport three of his four children actively enjoy and one in which he has a number of voluntary roles, including Ambassador for British Showjumping and Patron of the Brooke.
