Suzanne Stratford’s family moved to Broadlands in Medstead, Hampshire in 1946. In 1955 they started giving riding lessons and the Broadlands RDA Group has grown ever since. ITN newsreader Alastair Stewart OBE is an enormous supporter of British equestrianism, a sport three of his four children actively enjoy and one in which he has a number of voluntary roles, including Ambassador for British Showjumping and Patron of the Brooke. On Sunday 8th July Alastair and his wife, Sally, visited Broadlands to celebrate the first phase in the centre’s refurbishment. At the beginning of 2018, Kent-based Alex Bonnell decided she needed to find a young horse to following in the huge hoof prints of her wonderful horse, Bailey. A trip to Somerset and ‘love at first sight’ led to the arrival of a four-year-old part Shire called Archie. The British Young Rider National Championships took place over the weekend of 7th and 8th July at Kings Forest, Thetford, in some of the toughest conditions seen so far this year. Endurance GB is extremely proud to announce that the 2018 Young Rider National Champion is Endurance GB Spotlight Scholar, Ella Bunting, who rode Emma Daniel’s Aly’s Estrella de Rock to victory. The combination successfully completed the CEIYJ2* 120km ride at King’s Forest (GBR) in what can only be described as extremely challenging conditions. With temperatures well over 30 degrees centigrade, excellent horsemanship and understanding were required by all riders competing across the entire field of classes. Read more
On Friday 13th July, Great Britain’s Junior Showjumping Team, who ride under the title sponsorship of Team NAF, won Silver at the Junior European Championships in Fontainebleau, France. This brought to a close a terrific three days of jumping for the riders aged between 15 – 17 years in what proved to be an incredibly hard medal winning competition. Read more
The British Young Rider Team, riding under the title sponsor banner of Team NAF, won Team Gold at the Young Rider European Championships in Fontainebleau, France. Going into the competition as the current Young Rider Champions it was an incredible back-to-back victory in a competition which they dominated from the start. Their win which followed the Junior Team Silver win earlier in the afternoon certainly highlighted at a global level the incredible talent that we have coming up through the youth ranks in Great Britain.
