When caring for your horse during winter we all have two main goals, maintaining condition and ensuring their welfare needs are met during the cold weather.
This is the case regardless of whether your horse is stabled or still kept out at grass all year round.
For the grass kept horse the main priority will be to make sure they are provided with adequate forage to replace the grass which will now be non-existent or of poor quality, to enable them to keep warm.

Nominations Open for the Prestigious SEIB Meritoire Award
The annual SEIB Meritoire award is presented to the person who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the performance sport horse and pony breeding industry.
Previous winners have been the Louella Stud for their contribution to sport horse breeding; Johanna Vardon, founder of the National Foaling Bank, for her contribution to the health and wellbeing of orphaned foals; Archie Smith Maxwell, breeder of Jumbo, one of the highest ranking event sires of all time; Professor Graham Suggett in recognition for a lifetime’s contribution to breeding through encouraging British studbooks to work together and his Chairmanship of the former National Equine Database. In 2015 the Award was made posthumously to Richard Meade OBE, for his considerable competition success, his chairmanship of the British Horse Foundation for over 20 years and his unflinching support of British breeding. 5000 kilometre endurance milestone reached at Balmoral
Petplan Equine sponsored Scottish Endurance rider Lorna Hogg had cause for celebration on the weekend of the 25th October 2015 when together with her long term partner, 19 year old De Marco (Marco), she achieved the 5,000K of endurance competitions milestone.
Nicolina Mackenzie Receives Outstanding Achievement Award
It was role-reversal for Nicolina MacKenzie on Saturday 24 October 2015 when she was presented with the Spillers Showing World Outstanding Achievement Award at the Showing Council Showing World Awards Dinner. Nicolina (Nicky) is frequently pictured attending equestrian events presenting prizes on behalf of SEIB, but it was her turn in the spotlight as she collected the accolade in recognition of her considerable contribution to showing.

The Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round held at Blue Barn Equestrian Centre in Ashford, Kent on Saturday 24th October 2015 was won by Hannah Wright from Heathfield, East Sussex after she produced a quick double clear on board Racheal 55, an 8 year-old chestnut mare owned by Angela Wright.
