British-based para-dressage rider, Bert Sheffield, who rides for Canada, and her 10-year-old, home-produced, part-bred Gelderlander mare, Fairuza (known affectionately as ‘Wonky’ at home), pulled out all the stops at the recent CPEDI3* invitational competition at Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar, to win the Grade III Freestyle on the final day with a score of 70.167%.

It was an evening of rare treats for the enthusiastic home crowd at the College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire on Sunday 17th March 2019. An all-star cast descended upon the venue to do battle in the hotly-contested Equine Construction Grand Prix Freestyle, and though the final scores were tight at the top, British stalwart Carl Hester managed to edge the win from teammate Charlotte Dujardin. Suzanne Stratford’s family moved to Broadlands in Medstead, Hampshire in 1946. In 1955 they started giving riding lessons and the Broadlands RDA Group has grown ever since. ITN newsreader Alastair Stewart OBE is an enormous supporter of British equestrianism, a sport three of his four children actively enjoy and one in which he has a number of voluntary roles, including Ambassador for British Showjumping and Patron of the Brooke. On Sunday 8th July Alastair and his wife, Sally, visited Broadlands to celebrate the first phase in the centre’s refurbishment.
