Hampshire based Jenna Good and Western King won the Pony Discovery Championship Final at the British Showjumping Championships at Stoneleigh on Thursday 9th August.
The final class of the day in Championship Arena 1, the Pony Discovery Championship Final saw an incredible 94 starters come forward to tackle the 1.05m course built by lead course designer Jason Abbs. Despite exceptional talent on display, there were just nine through to the jump-off, of which only two riders achieved a double clear. In the fastest time and taking the Pony Discovery title was Jenna Good riding Western King.
Jenna travelled from Hampshire for the Championships bringing two ponies with her; her other pony Moscombe Sirius was placed fourth earlier in the day in the Pony Restricted Rider 1.10m Championship Final and second on Wednesday in Pony British Novice Championship Final.
Speaking of her win with 10-year-old grey gelding, Western King, Jenna said: “I just wanted to go for time in the jump-off, I was even prepared to have a pole, so when I realised we had gone clear I was really pleased. Sometimes you just have to go for it and we were going so fast I nearly forgot where to go!”
Jenna has only been riding King since last October after her sister stopped eventing him, so this is a great achievement for them. As Jenna will be moving onto horses next season. She concluded: “It was a perfect end to the season and I achieved what I set out to do so I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
