Ex-racehorse Bob Emmet wins at Brightling International

Becky Thomson Brightling Eventing

Becky Thomson riding Bob Emmet took the win in the BE90 Section A at Brightling Park International Horse Trials on 30th June. Becky works at Zimbabwean Olympic rider, Camilla Kruger’s yard, and is grateful to Camilla for her training, as well as allowing Bob space on the lorry for occasional schooling sessions.

Bob is an ex-racehorse owned by Mr and Mrs Staines, and despite his lack of enthusiasm for racing which caused him to run out or stop, this has not transferred to cross country where Bob thrives. He didn’t let this lull Becky into a false sense of security, however, pulling a shoe in the cross country warm-up which had to be glued back on moments before her round.

It is dressage that is Bob’s weakest link, with Becky saying that when she started riding him ‘to actually fit in a twenty by forty was quite difficult’, however they achieved a strong 26.5 at Brightling. Becky hopes to step up to BE100 at Borde Hill, and compete at a regional final for Badminton Grassroots later in the season. She also aims to continue doing well in South East events for both the satisfaction of his owners who ‘love to see him out’, as well as the incentive offered by SEEL to get the points up.
