The 2014 Trailblazers series is underway and there is a packed season ahead for competitors with 65 equestrian centres offering Trailblazers qualifiers for show jumping, dressage, combined training and showing. With venues spread throughout the UK, there is a wealth of opportunity for competitors to progress up the levels and qualify for the prestigious Trailblazers National Championships from 25th July to 3rd August 2014.

In the past year World Horse Welfare has had to cope with a huge increase of new horses coming into its Rescue and Rehoming Centres, 73% (or 140 extra horses) meaning 325 compared to 185 in 2012. The charity now has around 340 horses residing at its centres and desperately needs to rehome some to make space for others that are in need of urgent rescue and rehabilitation.

Three foals have been born at Writtle College’s Lordships Stud so far this season with another two expected over the coming weeks.
The theme for the names of the foals was put to the student vote with famous sports people and Shakespeare’s characters among the options but ‘birds’ was the clear winner.
