Alice Latta said 21-year-old Jerry III: “Loves eventing. He is not that keen on dressage and prefers to be jumping. He has a massive heart and that is why he loves to go cross country.”

23-year-old Alice from Bromley in Kent has owned the tri-coloured Jerry for nine years. As members of the West Kent Meopham Pony Club they caught the eventing bug and started competing in BE events in 2010. In 2012, Alice who is training to be an accountant, took a break from competition to concentrate on her studies and only started competing again in 2016 when she joined Fawkham & District Riding Club. The pair qualified for the Riding Club National Championships at Swalcliffe, which saw them finish third in their arena. Alice said: “It was like old-fashioned eventing with roads and tracks, so it was quite a learning curve for us and we had to get really fit.”

On the back of their success Alice joined BE again and in 2017 the combination finished second in their first event at Borde Hill, qualifying for the Mitsubishi Cup at the Firle Regional Final. Alice said: “Jerry loves it. He always looks like he has a big grin on his face when we are going cross country.”

The pair train with Mark Boxall for all disciplines and Mark will be coming up to Badminton on the Wednesday to help with their jumping and to walk the course with Alice. There will also be a large contingent of supporters for Alice and Jerry. Alice added: “Jerry has his own fan club from both the Pony Club and Riding Club, who all love him and think he is a superstar!”
