We are very sad to report that Jane and Jonathan Clarke’s wonderful horse, Second Supreme, collapsed and died whilst competing at the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials. Ridden by their daughter, Chuffy (Clarke), the combination was competing in the British Horse Feeds CCI*** u25 when Second Supreme stumbled on landing towards the end of the course. The cause of death is at present unknown, but is believed to be of natural causes.
Chuffy started competing Second Supreme in March 2017 and developed a great bond with stable favourite, known at home as Ed. From their first Open Novice at Isleham they progressed to Barbury CIC*** before ending the season in eighth place in the Event Riders Masters at Blair and seventeenth place at Blenheim International Horse Trials.
Chuffy and Ed had most recently been part of the British Nations Cup Team at Houghton International, where they finished on a clean sheet, adding just 1.2 time penalties to their dressage score.
Ed had previously been competed by Pippa Funnell for four seasons, completing Badminton in 2015. He had proved the perfect schoolmaster for Chuffy, confidently introducing her to three star courses and the pair had only one cross-country fault and one show jumping penalty during the last two seasons.
Our thoughts are with Chuffy, her family, Pippa and the teams who have loved and cared for Ed during the last sixteen years.
