All things Equestrian
Now in its fourteenth year Localrider Magazine specifically caters for all things equestrian in the South East of England. Reporting the latest news and events, with informative and entertaining articles, not forgetting fantastic photos too!
Reasons to be proud
We are really proud to be working in the South East of England. There are so many inspiring riders competing in every discipline and we certainly have our fair share of home grown champions. There is something satisfying in following a young rider as they strive to and successfully achieve the opportunity to ride for their country.
Event riders based in this area include Pippa Funnell, Tina Cook, Emily Baldwin, Emily Llewellyn, Gemma Tattersall, Jonathan Paget, plus Bryony & Francis Whittington. Show jumpers include Peter Charles, William Funnell, Guy Williams, Tina Fletcher, Yasmin Pinchen, Jessie Drea, plus international show jumping trainers, Corinne Bracken and Rob Hoekstra. And whilst the Cotswolds is the area most associated with dressage, The South East is still home to Jennie Loriston-Clarke, Vicki Thompson-Winfield, Kyra Kyrklund, Kirsty Mepham, Sarah Millis, Amy Stovold, Dane Rawlins, Andrew Gould and Dan Watson.
There are some great competition venues in the South East, such as Hickstead, Pachesham, Oldencraig, Royal Leisure and Wellington Riding, plus hundreds of wonderful cross country courses at places such as Eridge, Mattingley and Tweseldown. Localrider has a number of photographers working for us and it is always a pleasure to be reporting from these wonderful locations and also to have the opportunity to meet, interview and chat with, our readers.
In addition to the ‘professionals’ mentioned above the South East is home to a large number of enthusiastic and competitive riders, both young and mature. This might seem strange given how built up the southern commuter-belt is, but hidden between the suburbs of London and the southern coast of the country are wonderful pockets of open countryside. In fact Surrey boats some of the country’s best bridleways, offering hours of off-road riding across wonderful open heathland.
Anyone with a passion for horses, living in the South East deserves an opportunity to be featured in Localrider. Whether they are competing at the top of their sport or just having fun at a local pleasure ride. Regular features include ‘Regional Roundup’, ‘In the Spotlight’, ‘Reader of the Month’, ‘Show Reports’, plus much, much more.
